The Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships is presented annually to honor excellence in cross-sector strategic partnerships between the philanthropic and public sectors. This award recognizes collaborations that have both transformed the relationships between the sectors and led to measurable benefits while acknowledging the unique challenges of housing and community development, including increased economic development, health, safety, education, workforce development, disaster resilience, inclusivity, and cultural opportunities; innovative regional approaches; and improved housing access. The award serves to emphasize opportunities to bridge the gap between government and philanthropic work to increase the quality of life for low- and moderate-income residents in all American geographies — urban, suburban, and rural areas — while consistently being committed to meaningful changes in communities.

Starting this year, governors, mayors, and Tribal Leaders may submit one nomination per jurisdiction to recognize diverse foundations of all sizes that partner with the public sector. Foundations and nonprofits can self-nominate or nominate other organizations. Examples of desired nominations may include projects affiliated with agencies focusing on housing and neighborhood improvements, education, health and recreation, transportation, community participation, arts and culture, safety, disaster response, innovative regional approaches, and economic development. The award will be given to five foundations for completed or ongoing initiatives executed in conjunction with any local, regional, or federal government.

The deadline for submissions is March 28, 2022. Past winners and nomination information can be found at www.huduser.gov/portal/about/Pub_Phil_Intro.html.
