This is the third in a series of reports providing information on the size, composition, and quality of the assisted housing stock and the characteristics of its occupants. These reports are intended for the use of policy makers, analysts, and proponents of housing assistance for low-income families. This information is obtained by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the identification of assisted households who are also surveyed in the biennial national American Housing Survey (AHS).

The 1993 data reported here represent assisted households and units in all states and the District of Columbia, but exclude households and units in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands, which are not included in the AHS. The equivalent 1989 data were the first statistically valid description of assisted households available since 1979 and the first statistically valid description of assisted units ever published. Data for 1991 are contained in a separate report, being published simultaneously with this report.

This report is part of the collection of scanned historical documents available to the public.

This report is part of the collection of HUD Assisted Renters.
