Fighting Poverty and Creating Opportunity: The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative

Assistant Secretary Raphael Bostic discusses Choice Neighborhoods, a key Obama Administration initiative designed to address the problems of growing poverty and high poverty neighborhoods. The program objective is to foster housing redevelopment that spurs neighborhood stability and elevated levels of investment. Written in collaboration with Luke Tate, Senior Advisor for Urban Policy, the Assistant Secretary shares his thoughts on how Choice Neighborhoods will play a critical role in reinvigorating cities.

Joint Ventures: Microfinance Funds Support Entrepreneurs in Public-Private Collaboration
An innovative new collaboration in New Jersey — funded by HUD’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant and leveraged with additional private-sector funds — is confronting the need for a continuum of entrepreneurial services for businesses at different levels and may point to a good model for other communities seeking economic revitalization through entrepreneurship.
