New on The Edge

From the Assistant Secretary:
Message on Strong Cities, Strong Communities

A partnership of 13 federal agencies cuts across agency silos to help cities get more from their existing federal funding, reduce barriers to assistance, and reshape how the federal government collaborates with local communities. This represents a new approach to support American communities in building local capacity.

Policy Update:
Quantifying Energy Efficiency in Multifamily Rental Housing

Multifamily housing has significant potential for energy savings through retrofits. Improved data collection and standardization to inform investors about best practices and potential cost savings is key to stimulating private investment. Efforts are underway across the multifamily housing sector to collect the data necessary to spur private investment in retrofits.

New Data Source Used To Calculate Proposed FY 2012 Fair Market Rents
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development annually estimates FMRs for 530 metropolitan areas and 2,045 nonmetropolitan county FMR areas. The proposed 2012 Fair Market Rents (FMR) will be the first to benefit from a new American Community Survey (ACS) data source - providing geographic coverage at the most local level and allowing HUD to set a new base rent for each FMR area.
