Anchor Institutions: Historically Black Colleges and Universities Leading the way to Community Transformation

HUD’s Office of University Partnerships invites you to an event showcasing best practices among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the execution of community and economic development in low-wealth communities. The featured HBCUs have made exciting improvements to their communities in the areas of housing, commercial development, micro-financing for local businesses, homeownership, and more.

Panelists will discuss their efforts in collaboration with partners on the federal, state, and local levels to strengthen communities, bolster resources, and enhance community opportunities.

Speakers include:

  • David H. Swinton, Ph.D, President, Benedict College
  • Larry Salley, Executive Director, Benedict-Allen CDC
  • Gary Rodwell, Ph.D, Executive Director, Coppin State University, CDC
  • Dr. Elgin L. Klugh, Associate Professor and Chair, Criminal Justice & Applied Social and Political Sciences, Coppin State University
  • Dr. Kirk Crawley, Attorney at Law, President of the Coppin Heights Community Development Corporation’s Board of Trustees
