The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Policy Development and Research, expects to publish a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) on Grants.gov within the next couple of months. FY 2021 HBCU Research Center of Excellence

HUD is funding the HBCU Research Center of Excellence to conduct research projects on multiple topics of strategic interest to the Department of Housing and Urban Development enabling the establishment of one, or up to two Historically Black College and Universities Center(s) of Excellence to (COE). The research projects are intended to initiate an ongoing series of reports focused on housing, community, and economic development in underserved communities that can serve as national, local, or regional benchmarks and assist in support of COE(s) that expand the housing and community development research efforts at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The research projects, proposed by the awardee, will focus on topics of interest to the Department about underserved communities from the unique perspective of institutions that are often located in, and serve the residents of underserved communities.

Only Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) are eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: Any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of Black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary (of Education) to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation. Individuals, foreign entities, and sole proprietorship organizations are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
