Evidence Matters: Summer 2021

The Summer 2021 issue of Evidence Matters: Transforming Knowledge into Housing and Community Development Policy, which focuses on evictions, is now available. This issue looks at how evictions affect residents' physical and mental health; examines ways to measure the prevalence and impacts of evictions; and highlights state and city initiatives aimed at preventing evictions.

Key findings:

  • Evictions are a commonplace and disruptive experience for low-income renters.
  • Evictions often have negative effects on residents' social, economic, and physical well-being.
  • Evictions disproportionately affect people of color, women, and families with children.
  • It is hard to quantify the prevalence of evictions, especially since many occur informally.
  • Eviction prevention programs can stabilize households through counseling, financial assistance, and legal services.
