2021 AHS Summary Table Estimates and Public Use Files Released on Thursday, September 29!

On Thursday, September 29, HUD and the Census Bureau released 2021 AHS summary table estimates in the AHS Table Creator and 2021 AHS National and Metro Public Use File (PUF) microdata. The Table Creator release includes national estimates, estimates for 25 large metropolitan areas, and estimates for nine states. The National and Metro PUF release includes microdata for the nation and 25 large metropolitan areas. In additional to the “core” modules, the 2021 AHS included six topical modules: Delinquent Payments and Notices; Intent to Move; Expanded Renter Housing Search; Wildfire Risk; Smoking; and Pets.

Accompanying the release of the summary table estimates are revised Table Creator Release Notes and Table Creator Help Guide.

Accompanying the release to the 2021 AHS PUF are updates to the AHS web-based Codebook.

Additionally, HUD and the Census Bureau have released an updated version of the Sample Case History microdata file. This file details the history of all cases in the AHS national sample and metropolitan area samples from 2015 through 2021.

2021 AHS PUF Support Products Released

Accompanying the 2021 AHS PUF release, HUD and the Census Bureau released two products that support AHS PUF users. The 2021 Value Labels Package is a series of SAS® programs that help assign values to PUF categorical variables. The 2021 Table Specifications show the code used to create summary table estimates from microdata. AHS users may find it helpful to use the Table Specifications code to replicate summary table estimates using the PUF.
