This historical publication is the seventh chapter of the Historic Structures Report Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Building. The purposes of this chapter are to determine the composition of the mortar used in the construction of the building, the visual characteristics of the mortar used, and the types and causes of deterioration. Additionally, this chapter includes recommendations for the proper reporting of materials and methods so that future pointing will be compatible with the materials being pointed, act as an integral part of the masonry surface, and match the appearance of the original pointing mortar.
