Posted Date: October 24, 2023

This historical report was produced by the National Commission on American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Housing which was created to examine and recommend solutions to the housing problems of these Native populations. This publication includes the results of an informal housing survey taken on the Native people’s housing conditions and needs, the current status of the Commission’s recommendations set forth in their August 1992 report, and the Commission’s Native American Housing Improvements Legislative Initiative. The Initiative proposes an expansion of federal housing and infrastructure programs to include native Hawaiians, the creation of a Native American Finance Authority, and changes to the Housing Act of 1937 and other statutes.

This report is part of the collection of scanned historical documents available to the public.
