HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) is pleased to announce Atlanta Housing in Atlanta, GA will be the partnering public housing agency for the 2022 Innovation in Affordable Housing Student Design and Planning Competition. HUD PD&R is looking forward to working with Atlanta Housing on this exciting challenge!
NEW for 2022! Top 10 Phase I submissions will be recognized with honorable mentions. As in previous years, the top four submissions will move on to Phase II, but for the first time in the competition’s history the rest of the top 10 submissions will be recognized by HUD with honorable mentions on the IAH website and at the competition’s final event.
Making a Real-World Impact: The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara, the partnering PHA for the 2016 IAH Competition, recently issued a request for proposals (RFP) for general design concepts and architectural/engineering services for the redevelopment of an existing affordable housing apartment complex owned by the Housing Authority.
As part of the RFP, the Housing Authority provided case studies from the competition’s winning team and runner-up team as background information for bidders, calling the student team designs “very creative,” and “very interesting.”
As part of the 2022 IAH Competition and in collaboration with The Communities Group, a minority-owned firm, HUD PD&R provided a "Master Class" on tax credit development in the context of affordable housing and public housing repositioning.
A recording of the class, designed to provide graduate student teams with realistic funding options for the development and planning designs they create for the competition, is available here.
The PowerPoints used during the presentation are available here.
