Tampa, Florida: Addressing the Housing and Transportation Cost Burden

HUD USER publishes a series of Case Study case studies that highlight federal, state, and local strategies for increasing affordable housing opportunities, integrating sustainable features and practices, and improving access to public transportation. The projects featured in these case studies have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.

The most recent Case Study details the development of Metro 510 in Tampa, Florida, a 120-unit development that has brought much needed affordable housing to the city’s downtown core. Located close to the Marion Transit Center and employment centers, Metro 510 aims to reduce the high housing and transportation costs faced by Tampa residents. The project includes the preservation of a local landmark through the adaptive reuse of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church as a community center.

Visit HUD USER's Case Studies Resource page to learn more about Metro 510 and to view other promising examples of how communities across the nation are raising the bar on affordable, sustainable development.
