Honoring Preservation Efforts With the ACHP/HUD Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation


In recognition of projects that restore or rehabilitate buildings of architectural and cultural significance while delivering affordable housing or economic opportunities to low- and moderate-income households, HUD has partnered with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) to offer the ACHP/HUD Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. HUD and ACHP have issued a call for nominations for the 2017 award, and submissions will be accepted until 11:59 pm PDT on March 27, 2017.

Message from PD&R Leadership:
New Access to Experimental Data Announced
HUD is hosting a competition for access to data sets from two important randomized social experiments, the Moving to Opportunity for Fair Housing demonstration and the Family Options Study. Mark Shroder, Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Monitoring, describes these evaluations and discusses how HUD’s partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau will make the data available to qualified researchers and more easily matched with other government records.

The Los Angeles Unified School District Provides Employee Housing in Sage Park Apartments
In April 2015, Sage Park Apartments opened on the Gardena High School campus with 90 units of affordable rental housing, a multipurpose center, and a facility used for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Juvenile Impact program. Sage Park Apartments was the first affordable development built on land owned by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) that helped to meet the goal of LAUSD’s Workforce Housing Initiative: to attract and retain employees by giving LAUSD staff members preference for the affordable housing units.
