The University of Delaware Helps Revitalize the State's Most Distressed Communities

HUD User publishes a series of case studies based on federal, state, and local strategies that increase affordable housing opportunities and support sustainable community development. The projects and community development efforts featured in these reports have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.

The University of Delaware Center for Community Research and Service (CCRS), housed in the School of Public Policy and Administration, helps community leaders build capacity to plan and implement revitalization projects through the Blueprint Communities program. The center's work with the Eastside neighborhood in Wilmington resulted in the formation of Eastside Rising, a coalition of community groups unified by the common goal of promoting housing, workforce, and economic development. The coalition's job training efforts and rehabilitation of vacant homes in Eastside have led to greater neighborhood stability.

Visit HUD User's Case Studies page to learn more about the University of Delaware's Blueprint Communities program and about other promising examples of how communities across the nation are raising the bar on sustainable community development.
