Call for Entries! 2020 HUD Secretary's Opportunity and Empowerment Award

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the American Planning Association (APA) are pleased to announce a call for entries for the annual HUD Secretary's Opportunity and Empowerment Award. The award recognizes excellence in planning and is given to a community or plan, program, or project that as a direct result of the planning effort demonstrates improved quality of life for low- and moderate-income residents. Emphasis is placed on how creative housing, economic development, and private investments have been used in or with a comprehensive community development plan to build social equity and empower community residents.

Entries will be accepted from August 21, 2019, until 5 p.m. CDT on September 6, 2019, through online submission at the APA website.

The award will be presented at APA's National Planning Conference to be held April 25–28, 2020, in Houston, Texas.

The award recipient will:

  • Receive a personalized sculpture;
  • Be highlighted in a multimedia presentation at the awards luncheon; and
  • Be featured in a Spring 2020 edition of Planning magazine.

Don't miss the opportunity to share your achievement in planning excellence!
