Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies Report: America’s Rental Housing 2022 Release


A recent report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) of Harvard University reveals that the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the disparity in housing stability between high-income and low-income renters. On January 21, 2022, JCHS held a virtual event titled "America’s Rental Housing 2022," and invited housing policy experts from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to discuss the report’s findings, how to create affordable housing during economic recovery, and how public policy and private capital can support the creation of affordable housing in desirable markets that are safe from natural disasters.

Sydney House Provides Affordable Homeownership Opportunities in the Bronx
Opened in 2021, Sydney House is a 56-unit cooperative condominium building that brings affordable homeownership to the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, New York City. A joint venture between the developer Almat Group and Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County, the seven-story co-op is the largest multifamily Habitat for Humanity project in the world. Sydney House’s amenities include a large recreation area, patio, and bicycle storage.

Strong Economy and Low Inventory in the Bremerton-Silverdale HMA
The latest article in a series focusing on HUD’s Comprehensive Housing Market Analyses examines the Bremerton-Silverdale, Washington Housing Market Area (HMA). Naval Base Kitsap is the second largest naval base on the west coast and the HMA’s largest employer, home to 33,800 employees. Employment is predicted to grow an average of 1.7 percent annually for the next three years. The home sales market is tight and the rental market is balanced.
