HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) funded three HBCU Research Centers of Excellence in FY21 and FY22—Howard University, Texas Southern University and North Carolina A&T University—to support housing and community development research.

In October 2024, PD&R announced $5 million in award funding to Winston-Salem State University and Tennessee State University to establish additional HBCU Research Centers of Excellence.
