This historical report describes the findings of a 1961—1965 survey focused on college and university facilities. The last of a four-part series of reports, this report explores how respondent institutions accommodated enrollment increases, with regards to the construction or acquisition of new facilities. The survey found that over the 5-year period, the participating higher education institutions reported rising enrollment, residential overcrowding, and collective plans to build over 8,000 new facilities at a cost of more than $7.3 billion. This report was prepared for the Office of Education of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
