An Update to Our “Update”!

The live webcast of the HUD Office of Policy Development & Research briefing is still set to take place on December 8th from 2:00 – 3:30, but with the following content revision and an addition to our panel, both of which you’ll see highlighted below in green. We hope you’ll join us for this online webcast.

The Quarterly Housing Market and Research Update includes the following:

  • Changes in the State of the Nation’s Housing Markets: 3rd Quarter 2011 Update
  • Know Your Indicators: Survey of Construction
  • Panel Discussion: Effectiveness of HUD’s Disaster Recovery Efforts on the Gulf Coast

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated $19.4 billion of supplemental CDBG funding to Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas to help communities and property owners recover from hurricanes Rita, Wilma, and Katrina that devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. Come join us to discuss the role these dollars played in housing recovery as we examine the results of a new PD&R study, “Housing Recovery on the Gulf Coast, Phase II Results of Property Owner Survey in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas,” which can be found here. This unique study employs a detailed survey of over 700 affected property owners as well as windshield observations of over 3,500 damaged properties to shed new light on the individual and neighborhood factors that affect housing recovery.

We hope you can join us for this exciting discussion on HUD’s disaster recovery efforts. After a brief presentation on the study panelists will share their perspective and expertise on the issue. There will also be time to field questions from the audience, via email and Twitter. Follow the event on Twitter #PDRupdate and email in questions during the webcast to PDRQuarterlyUpdate@hud.gov.
