To bring attention to the problem of insufficient housing production and its possible solutions, the White House held a webinar titled "Reducing Land Use and Zoning Restrictions" in October 2021. Brian Deese, director of the National Economic Council; Cecilia Rouse, chair of the Council of Economic Advisors; and Ed Glaeser, professor of economics at Harvard University, framed the issues, including the 3.8 million national housing unit shortage.
