The S.G. Atkins Community Development Corporation Revitalizes Neighborhoods near Winston-Salem State University

HUD USER publishes a series of case studies based on federal, state, and local strategies that increase affordable housing opportunities and support sustainable community development. The projects and community development efforts featured in these reports have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.

The most recent Case Study details the work of the S.G. Atkins Community Development Corporation in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Established by Winston-Salem State University, the nonprofit organization is working to support a variety of community and economic development initiatives that are helping to stabilize and improve the neighborhoods adjacent to the campus. These efforts include housing investments, community plans, and the development of the city's only small business incubator.
