Dear AHS User Community,

Below are a few important announcements about the AHS.

All Historical AHS PUF Microdata Now Available on Census.gov

HUD and the Census Bureau have made available for download all AHS national and metropolitan area microdata from 1973 through 2013. The microdata files are available in SAS or CSV formats. Please see the “Data” section on http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/ahs/.

DRAFT Core Module Changes

Here is a list of changes HUD is proposing to make to the core modules for the 2015 AHS. If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to (shawn.j.bucholtz@hud.gov) .

2015 AHS Metropolitan Area Oversamples

In early February, HUD published a Federal Register Notice seeking public comment on which metropolitan areas to oversample in the 2015 AHS. It is important to HUD that the AHS user community is engaged in the metropolitan area oversample decisions. We are especially interested in metropolitan areas that are important from a housing program or housing policy perspective. Additionally:

  1. HUD is willing to consider requests to include a metropolitan area in both the 2015 AHS and the 2017 AHS.
  2. HUD is willing to consider requests for samples focused on particular population cohorts within a metropolitan area.
  3. HUD is willing to consider requests to include samples provided by entities other than the Census Bureau.
  4. HUD is willing to consider requests to include metropolitan areas that are not part of the top 60 by population.

Please take a moment to read the notice and submit your comments. As always, feel free to contact HUD if you’d like to discuss further (shawn.j.bucholtz@hud.gov or 202-402-5538). https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/02/04/2014-02193/request-for-comment-on-the-2015-american-housing-survey-metropolitan-samples

2011 CINCH Reports

The CINCH and Rental Dynamics updates based on the 2011 AHS have been delayed. We anticipate that the new reports and datasets will be released late in the spring of 2014.
