The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing
(PATH) has announced the quarterly release of Tech Sets,
a new resource that provides valuable guidance to
builders and homeowners on selecting innovative
technologies, and then implementing them using an
integrated, systems-based approach.

This new resource is ideal for those who are ready to
innovate but not sure where to start. PATH's Tech Sets
will offer builders a cost-effective framework of
technologies that can be used together to improve
durability, energy efficiency, environmental performance,
disaster resistance, and safety.

Each quarter, PATH will launch a new Tech Set addressing
an area of interest to builders and remodelers.

Dennis C. Shea, HUD's Assistant Secretary for Policy
Development and Research, presented the new resource
during PATH's annual "Breakfast of Innovators," held this
year on January 14th in the PATH Tutorial Townhouses at
the International Builders' Show in Orlando, Florida.
"The PATH Tech Sets are a series of innovation packages
designed to encourage a systems approach to technology
integration," Shea explained. "Each Tech Set will offer a
cost-effective package of technologies that work together
to improve one or more of the PATH building priorities:
durability, energy efficiency, environmental performance,
disaster resistance, and safety."

The first Tech Set, "Resource Efficient Plumbing for New
Construction and Additions," shows how to decrease the
cost of construction and maintenance by promoting
effective systems integration of the water distribution
and used water (greywater) recycling network. The Tech
Set for new construction incorporates five key
components: home run plumbing, low-flow fixtures, air
admittance vents, a tankless water heater, and piping for
a greywater reuse system.

PATH's goal with this Tech Set is to decrease the cost of
construction, maintenance, and energy and water use in
housing by promoting effective integration of the water
distribution and greywater systems. Integration of
several technologies promotes a systems-based design
approach in which benefits are enhanced when certain
technologies are used together.
