Attention Colleges and Universities: HUD recently announced the availability of $7 million for three programs funded through the Office of University Partnerships: the Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) Program, the COPC New Directions Grant, and the COPC Community Futures Grant. Applications are due on June 24, 2003.

The COPC Program provides funding to community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities to establish and operate COPCs based on their capacity to address the problems of urban areas. The Program aims to build on the tremendous physical and economic resources of America's colleges and universities - and the knowledge, creativity, and energy of their faculty and students - and to encourage these institutions to help create stronger, healthier communities.

COPC provides 3-year grants of up to $400,000 to encourage institutions of higher education to enter into partnerships with their communities. Approximately $4 million is available for COPC grants this year.
The COPC New Directions Grant provides funds to colleges and universities previously funded as COPCs to undertake new activities in applied research and outreach. One million dollars is available for COPC New Directions grants.

Accredited public and private nonprofit institutions of higher education granting two- or four-year degrees are eligible for COPC and COPC New Directions Grants. There are fund matching requirements for both programs.

The COPC Community Futures Grant program provides funding to schools of architecture, planning, or design at two-year colleges, four-year colleges, and universities to establish and operate COPCs. About $2 million is earmarked for COPC Community Futures Grants. This program also has a dollars matching requirement.

As previously mentioned, the application deadline for all of the grant programs is June 24, 2003.
