Subject: AHS 2001 Update Package Now Available

The update package for the 2001 AHS dataset is now available for download
from https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html.  The link reads
"Download the 2001 National AHS Update (revised 12/11/02)."  This will get
you a self-extracting zip archive containing an ASCII data file, a SAS
program, and an instruction file.  Those of you who use SAS can just run
the SAS file to add the new weights to your current dataset.  Those who use
other analytical software will need to match the data file to your current
data using CONTROL.  See the instruction file for details.

By the way, we're experiencing an intermittent problem in which the HUD
email system is rejecting AHS mailing list messages as spam. Thus, I am
sometimes missing messages.  Isn't technology wonderful?  I'm told that the
problem is being worked on.

Subject: AHS Codebook update, wall chart....

(In role of contractor supporting HUD for the AHS....)

A new version(1.10)of the AHS codebook is available on the HUD USER web site.  It can be found on this page:https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html

There are only very minor changes in the codebook.  These include:

-      Documentation of theWGT90GEO variablewhich wasjust added to the2001data, to provide weights based on 1990 Census Geography

-       Documentation of the JRAS variable which was missing
-      Correction of a few typos and misspellings.

Please let me know if you spot anything or if there are confusing sections.  I expect the next major release of the codebook to be in the spring and will include information on the 2002 MSA data.

(In role of contractor supporting HUD for HUD USER.)

The 2001 AHS wall charts – a popular item for wall decorating– shouldbe arriving at HUD USER shortly.  They’ve been printed, HUD has them, but it looks like they did not get shipped properly to HUD USER. We’re tracking down where they are.

Another brief message will follow when their arrival is confirmed.
