This historical publication was jointly sponsored by HUD and HHS as part of their efforts to encourage the coordination of housing and services for low-income and homeless families and individuals, including those with severe mental illness. The report was intended to assist PHAs and community mental health agencies in finding effective ways to integrate younger individuals with mental illness into public housing for elderly families. Chapters of the publication include an Introduction, Emerging Social and Demographic Trends, The Challenges of Mixed Populations, Working Together to Meet the Needs of Public Housing Residents, and Case Studies.
