This historical publication, produced by HUD and the FHA, is a consumer bulletin that provides six steps for developing rent supplement proposals. To apply for a project, an applicant must have been a private nonprofit, a limited distribution organization, or a cooperative. The six stages cover the periods between: 1) the sponsor’s initial planning of the proposal; 2) the sponsor first conferring with FHA to when the company formally asks FHA for a preapplication analysis; 3) FHA receiving the proposal to receiving an application for mortgage insurance; 4) FHA processing the mortgage insurance application to issuing the commitment to insure; 5) FHA committing to insuring the loan to the initial closing of the loan; and 6) initial closing to final closing of the loan.
