This historical publication was funded by the National Housing Agency, which requested the Bureau of the Census conduct a survey of the housing characteristics of veterans who had recently returned from World War II. The survey sought to understand five broad categories: the present living arrangements of veterans, the quality of their present housing, their needs and future plans, how much veterans who are seeking housing are able to pay, and general characteristics of veterans.
