In 1982, HUD launched the Affordable Housing Demonstration at 20 sites across the country. Each site took the form of a subdivision, built without Federal subsidy by a local developer. This historic publication is a case study of the Santa Fe, New Mexico demonstration site. The local developer at this site was Walton Chapman Builders, and the project itself, Fairway Village, was a 31-acre site originally intended for a mobile home park. When Walton Chapman joined the Affordable Housing Demonstration, they changed their plans and instead designed a subdivision of 154 single-family homes in three models.
