In Wasilla, Alaska, MY House provides housing and supportive services to young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The nonprofit operates transitional housing, a drop-in resource center, and several social enterprises that offer job training and income to participants. In Bessemer City, North Carolina, the Lofts at Osage Mill transformed a century-old textile mill into 139 affordable apartments serving households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income. The $36 million rehabilitation preserved the building’s historic features while adding modern amenities and community spaces. Supported by North Carolina’s historic mill rehabilitation tax credit, the project has catalyzed downtown investment and provided a model for adaptive reuse in small communities.
