AHS Updates

The AHS Table Creator

The Table Creator is the online application that produces custom summary tables of AHS data. Two major updates have been made to the Table Creator. First, we've added the 2013 AHS metropolitan area samples (25 metro areas). Second, we've implemented 2010 Urban Area and 2013 Metropolitan and Micropolitan Area geographic definitions. Third, we've added USDA Economic Research Service's Rural-Urban Commuting Areas and Rural-Urban Continuum Codes as grouping variables. You can access the Table Creator from the AHS home page on the Census Bureau web site: http://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/ahs.html.

2015 AHS

The 2015 AHS data collection is complete, with a response rate of almost 85 percent. The Census Bureau is preparing the data for HUD quality control review. We expect to release the public use file (PUF) in early summer 2016. This survey has a new sample that is not longitudinal with the 1985-2013 panel. It will be longitudinal into the future. The 2015 survey includes topical modules on arts and culture, food security, housing counseling, and healthy homes.

We have taken advantage of the new sample to review the variables in the PUF. The 2015 PUF will have new and changed variables that better reflect the way the data are used and make it easier to match PUF tabulations to summary tables. The codebook will be a searchable online database, with an option to download all or selected variable definitions. Thus, you will be able create a custom codebook covering only the variables that you use.

The 2015 survey includes the metropolitan area surveys listed below. Those in boldface are the "regular 15" that will appear in every AHS. Budget permitting, we will also rotate through additional metropolitan areas at four-year intervals.
