West Allis, Wisconsin: Supportive Housing in Suburban Milwaukee

HUD User publishes a series of case studies based on federal, state, and local strategies that increase affordable housing opportunities and support sustainable community development. The projects and community development efforts featured in these reports have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.

A recent Case Study details Highland Commons, a 50-unit development that provides affordable housing and supportive services for residents living with mental illness. Developed in the suburban Milwaukee city of West Allis, the project replaced a distressed rooming house facility with much-needed supportive housing. The project has proven successful in providing stable housing for residents, while also showing positive results in reducing unnecessary hospitalizations and medical costs.
