Duke University Joins Partners in the Durham Region

HUD User publishes a series of case studies based on federal, state, and local strategies that increase affordable housing opportunities and support sustainable community development. The projects and community development efforts featured in these reports have demonstrated innovation through a multitude of partnerships and initiatives.

Recognizing its impact on its neighbors, Duke University has reached out to leaders of local public schools and residents of 12 Durham, North Carolina, neighborhoods surrounding the campus to create a positive environment in which all stakeholders can work toward mutually beneficial community improvements. First through the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership, and now also through the Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, the university is establishing partnerships to help neighborhoods across the region achieve their educational, housing, and community development goals.

Visit HUD User's Case Studies page to learn more about affordable homeownership and to view other promising examples of how communities across the nation are raising the bar on sustainable community development.
