Call for Entries! 2019 HUD Secretary's Opportunity and Empowerment Award

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the American Planning Association (APA) are pleased to announce a call for entries for the annual HUD Secretary's Opportunity and Empowerment Award. The award recognizes excellence in planning that as a direct result of the effort demonstrates improved quality of life for low- and moderate-income residents. Emphasis is placed on how creative housing, economic development, and private investments have been used in or with a comprehensive community development plan to build social equity and empower community residents.

Entries will be accepted from tomorrow until 5 p.m. CDT on September 10, 2018, through online submission at the APA website.

The award will be presented at APA's National Planning Conference to be held April 13–16, 2019, in San Francisco, California.

The award recipient will:

  • Receive a personalized sculpture;
  • Be highlighted in a multimedia presentation at the awards luncheon; and
  • Be featured in Planning magazine.
