U.S. Housing Market Conditions

The USHMC website contains all the national, regional, state, metropolitan, and local data and analysis in one location. You may search by geography to obtain all the reports available for a particular area. Alternatively, you may search by the type of report. Each report contains different levels of data and/or analysis.

Featured USHMC charts highlight Federal Housing Finance Agency data on conventional closed mortgages. Annual data on the average interest rate, fees and charges, effective rate, and term to maturity are shown. The interest rate and fees and charges are combined to derive the average effective rate on these loans, which peaked at 15.31 in 1982 and most recently, at 8.25, in 2000. The term to maturity of fixed-rate loans averaged 20.3 years in 1963, when the data series first began, and reached a high of 29.2 years in 2007.
