This historic study, prepared by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) for use by HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research, is an evaluation of the emergency egress provisions of the HUD Mobile Home Construction and Safety Standard. Using a combination of library research, laboratory testing, and the construction of a Mobile Home Emergency Egress Demonstration Unit, the researchers concluded that the emergency egress requirements of the standard were generally inadequate.
