Compressed earth blocks are molded adobe blocks produced using mechanical compaction methods. Compressed earth blocks represent a locally sourced and manufactured building technology for producing quality, healthy, and affordable housing that is consistent with traditional practices and values of tribal communities. The technology supports goals of self-sufficiency, sustainability, and energy independence. This report provides technical and practical guidance for the production and use of compressed earth blocks to address housing needs in Native American reservations, along with planning and business considerations consistent with tribal values and organization.
