This report, the third in a series of HUD-funded analyses of American Housing Survey (AHS) mortgage finance data, organizes data on the financing of owner-occupied units from AHS surveys conducted between 1997 and 2005. Its goal is to help researchers and policymakers understand the strengths and weaknesses of AHS housing finance data. The report presents the data in a format similar to the now-discontinued Residential Finance Survey so that users of that survey might evaluate how well the AHS can serve their needs. For each of the covered survey years, the report presents three tables, which cover the mortgage status of the entire owner-occupied housing stock, the primary mortgages of the owner-occupied housing stock, and mortgage originations that occurred between each survey year and the next one. A set of summary tables covering all five surveys is also included.
