This historical publication was produced to clarify the types of standard plans available, set forth the series of plans currently authorized, note those discontinued, and incorporate various information and instructions relating to the standard plans and their use, which have been issued separately. Standard plans were prepared to ensure a minimum standard and a maximum standard to balance the essentials required by soldiers and the material shortages of wartime. These efforts to standardize housing requirements sped up the planning period of projects, facilitated the granting of priority ratings, and permitted consolidated procurement of furniture and equipment.
